Our Story
Our Garden Home orphanage is a very special place, just for children who have lost both their mothers and fathers and had no place to go. It is on a very beautiful 27 acre peninsula on a river with hundreds of fruit trees, gardens, and rice paddy fields. It is something of a greenhouse for the children’s lives and a model for other orphanages. Currently there are 65 orphans with 32 new children coming when the new house is complete.
Education is very important at Garden Home, giving the children a brighter future. In addition to the children attending public school we hire teachers to tutor and enhance their education in key subjects. We also provide practical skills like classes like sewing, caring for animals, agriculture, computers, and more. All the children except little ones have chores and develop a good work ethic. They also have a great spiritual life with daily devotions together and personal disciplines. When you see them worshiping from their hearts, it is really a beautiful thing.
This and our 60 acre Three Harvest Farm, about 10 minutes away, are designed to help Garden Home be more self-sustaining and provide good nutrition for the children. God provided a great deal on the farm, purchased for $35 an acre years ago, on a canal with water for fields and fish ponds.
Before the current civil war the farm had 7,000 chickens and over 100,000 fish in the ponds. Chicken feed prices went through the roof so the project has been suspended for now until peace comes and prices stabilize. Chickens were sold and given away, helping orphanages in need.
In addition to our agricultural initiatives, we raise livestock including cows, pigs, ducks, fish and chickens. This livestock breeding program supplies fresh meat and milk, with the latter providing a nutritious breakfast for the children from our dairy cows. Additionally, five university students from our orphanage are involved in this project, with the profits helping provide their food and educational expenses. Currently, we also have 30 beef cattle and plan to expand to 50 in the future.
We have been working towards farming and livestock breeding to offer long-term support for the orphanages, addressing both the daily health and educational needs of the orphans. We have done our best to also assist other orphanages by advising their leaders on farming and livestock breeding, providing training in these areas, and purchasing land for agricultural purposes.
